Footsteps in the Gobi

Mildred Cable was the first Englishwoman to cross the Gobi Desert. From 1923 to 1936, Mildred and two friends, sisters Francesca and Eva French, travelled back and forth across the route that has become known as the Silk Road.

Tales of their journeys were published in 'The Gobi Desert', first printed in 1943.

Using this book as a guide, Footsteps in the Gobi traces Mildred's original path, exploring the desert landscape and its spaces some 80 years after her first journey.
